Official platform and customs information is separated from estimates and third-party reports. Rules, routes and prices can change, so verify the live checkout before payment.

Scope note

This independent guide explains a decision process, not a guaranteed rate, delivery date, tax result or refund outcome.

01

Use Germany data, not an EU average

EU customs and VAT rules provide a shared framework, but the final delivery, carrier handling and practical route availability are destination-specific. Enter a German postcode and the actual contents into the live estimator. Do not apply a Netherlands or France quote simply because all three destinations are in the EU. Route names, last-mile partners and remote-area conditions can differ.

Record actual weight and outer dimensions because the billed value may be dimensional. Keep the route’s divisor and rounding rule with the quote if shown. If only item weights are known, treat the result as preliminary. Packed dimensions after consolidation are the useful input for a final comparison.

02

Map every cost layer

A complete Germany budget includes the goods, seller-to-warehouse delivery, any optional warehouse or payment services, packing, international freight, VAT or duty treatment and possible carrier fees. Store each amount in its original currency and note the conversion used. This prevents an exchange-rate change from being mistaken for a freight increase.

Build an expected scenario with realistic packing and a route you would accept, plus a high case for larger volume or fewer eligible lines. If the item value is low but the parcel is large, calculate delivered cost per item before ordering. Bulky low-value goods can become uneconomic even when their marketplace price looks attractive.

03

Check the 2026 customs position

German Customs and the European Commission publish current rules for non-EU online orders. Import VAT and a customs declaration can apply. Since 1 July 2026, a temporary €3 duty applies to qualifying low-value consignments by tariff classification, not by the number of physical units. Check the applicable declaration and destination rules before estimating the charge.

Keep descriptions, quantities, values and supporting invoices accurate. Confirm whether VAT was collected during purchase or remains payable on import. A postal or courier handling charge may appear separately from government taxes. These figures belong in the landed-cost plan even though they are not part of the Hipobuy shipping quote.

04

Pack for chargeable weight

Review original packaging before consolidation. A rigid presentation box can increase dimensions far more than weight. Remove it only if its value and protective role are lower than the likely volume cost. Structured bags, electronics and fragile accessories need different protection from compressible clothing, so one universal packing instruction is inappropriate.

When a basket contains several sellers, use storage to wait for approved items and combine deliberately. Do not hold a defective item merely to complete a parcel. Resolve QC and seller returns first, then test whether one consolidated parcel or two smaller parcels gives better eligible options.

05

Compare line quality and restrictions

Start with acceptance: destination, contents, weight and dimensions. Then compare tracking milestones, compensation terms, estimated range and the German last-mile carrier where shown. A faster estimate is not a guarantee because warehouse processing, export and customs are outside a simple transit headline.

Sensitive contents can force the whole parcel onto a more expensive route. Calculate the incremental cost of keeping that item versus sending or returning it separately. Do not choose a route by coupon size alone; compare the final payable quote and the protection you receive after the discount is applied.

06

Save evidence through delivery

Before dispatch, save the packed weight and dimensions, contents, declaration, route terms, quote and German address. After submission, keep both the platform parcel number and carrier tracking number. Read events in sequence: warehouse processing, collection, export, import, customs release and last-mile delivery.

If a charge or status looks wrong, evidence is more useful than a general complaint. Contact the relevant party with dates, invoice, parcel ID and screenshots. A good Germany shipping plan does not eliminate uncertainty; it makes each assumption visible and gives you the records needed to understand what changed.

07

Separate common EU concepts from destination details

Keep the destination country and postcode visible throughout the comparison. A general EU explanation cannot determine every local handling charge, delivery arrangement or product restriction. Record the invoice, declared contents, route name, final dimensions and any explanation of where tax is collected. Check whether an amount is included in the route quotation before adding another allowance. Do not copy an old low-value threshold into a current shipping decision without checking the official rules that apply at dispatch.

Use the product stage to remove avoidable uncertainty. Match clothing measurements and shoe labels before consolidation. Once the warehouse supplies packed dimensions, compare eligible routes for that same configuration. If a change of contents removes a route, repeat the comparison rather than preserving its earlier price as a target. Save the evidence with the order record so a later question about cost or delivery can be traced to the particular parcel, date and selected service.
